Lavie Tidhar (born 16 November 1976) is an Israeli-born writer, working across multiple genres. Tidhar grew up in the communal atmosphere of an Israeli Kibbutz. He began to travel extensively from the age of 15 and incorporates his experiences as a traveller into several of his works. He has lived in the United Kingdom and South Africa for long periods of time, as well as Laos and Vanuatu. As of 2013, Tidhar lives in London. His novel Osama won the 2012 World Fantasy Award for Best Novel, beating Stephen King’s 11/22/63 and George R. R. Martin’s A Dance with Dragons. His novel A Man Lies Dreaming won the £5000 Jerwood Fiction Uncovered Prize, for Best British Fiction, in 2015. He won the John W. Campbell Memorial Award for Best Science Fiction Novel in 2017, for Central Station.

Lavie Tidhar has published The Apex Book of World SF Series, collecting short stories of international speculative fiction. Tidhar edited the first three volumes (2009, 2012, 2014), and remained as overall Series Editor from the fourth volume (2015). A fifth volume is being prepared. As companion to the book series, Lavie Tidhar began the blog World SF (https://worldsf.wordpress.com/) promoting the books and presenting background articles and interviews to the authors – and to international science fiction as such.
