Panel: Will the real science fiction please stand up?
One of the most pretigous science fiction awards, the Clarke Award, is often given to writers outside the field who uses science fiction tropes in their fiction. Many of the most talented writers in the field writes science fiction that is very far from the core of the genre. Will this result in a splitting of the genre, with the ”slipstream” science fiction merging with mainstream litterature and the more genre-adherent science fiction left with perhaps an even worse reputation than before? Or does it mean that science fiction (with perhaps a few exceptions) will finally be recognized as litterature?
